Meet Madilyn's first sewing project, humpty dumpty the jelly fish! We made him one afternoon last week while the boys were napping. Madilyn had been drawing her ideas, picking out different fabrics and talking about all the things she was planning to make as her first project for a while. Last week she came to me and said she had an idea of what to make, so she picked out all new fabric and ribbons and we sat at the machine and made exactly what she had in her head, no drawings, just letting her lead as we went. She designed the shape, did all the cutting, placed the ribbons where she wanted them (jelly fish have arms sometimes too), helped with the sewing (both machine and by hand) and stuffed him all by herself. I asked her if she wanted to give him a face and she replied, "no mama he has bubbles!" oh right! She couldn't believe she made something, it was super cute and she has been carrying that jelly fish around and playing with him ever since. I am so proud of her and love her creativity, she's so spunky and colorful, especially in her artwork, which there is a lot of around here. And my little 4 year old sewer was already talking this morning about what should be made next, she has big plans, this girl of mine.

And after making humpty, all on her own she made herself a little "crown" with some scrap ribbon and some tread, love her little hippie style.
